The Organization
Blue Door is located in York Region. Blue Door is the largest Homeless Emergency and Transitional Housing provider in York Region. They operate the only men’s and family emergency housing sites, as well as the seasonal Out of the Cold program, as well as Transitional Supportive Housing programs for family, senior men, and 2SLGBTQ+ youth. Their Employment Social Enterprise, Construct, provides meaningful hands-on training opportunities for individuals interested in a career in the trades. This year Blue Door celebrated their 40th anniversary.
The Project
Blue Door’s project is the redevelopment of our Kevin’s Place Emergency Housing site. The site currently houses one 5-bedroom house in a residential neighbourhood in Newmarket. The property is dated and the land is underutilized. Their vision is to redevelop the property to house 14 stacked townhouse units that will provide the organization with mix usage between emergency housing, affordable housing, and market rental.
