Mission and Vision

The Antigonish Affordable Housing Society (AAHS) is a volunteer-run and volunteer-governed non-profit charitable organization that creates affordable housing solutions.

Antigonish Affordable Housing Society currently owns and operates 45 apartments in the Town and County of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. By 2029, the Antigonish Affordable Housing Society aims to triple the number of affordable, environmentally, socially, and financially sustainable homes that they provide.

As a community-based non-profit housing provider, the AAHS believes in:
– Treating people with dignity, respect, and compassion.
– Striving for equity, inclusion, and diversity.
– Being accountable, transparent, and trustworthy.
– Partnering and collaborating with others.
-Learning and changing as an organization.

Project

For the “Sugarloaf” Project, AAHS will build between 110 – 134 homes with an affordable focus (in a mixed model). The new community will be on a parcel of donated land on the edge of town, near the regional hospital.

In the Accelerator, they will

Complete the preliminary design and massing study, create a business plan and funding strategy, complete a detailed design, develop a procurement strategy, and outline an operations and maintenance plan.
