Mission

The Mi’kmaw Cultural Foundation Inc. is dedicated to revitalizing, preserving, and sharing Mi’kmaw culture, language, and traditions across Ktaqmkuk (Newfoundland). Through land-based education, cultural programming, and artistic expression, the Foundation empowers Mi’kmaw youth, Elders, and communities to strengthen their identities and relationships with the land. Guided by values of respect, reciprocity, and cultural renewal, we build meaningful partnerships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations to promote awareness and understanding of Mi’kmaw heritage. Their programs, such as Lnu’k Gardens, Ktaqmkuk Rising, and Healing Ktaqmkuk, bring together culture, environmental stewardship, and community well-being to ensure that Mi’kmaw knowledge and ways of life continue to thrive for future generations.

Project

The Mi’kmaw Cultural Foundation Inc. is developing a plan to acquire land and buildings to establish a Mi’kmaw Cultural Centre and Community Hub in Stephenville, Ktaqmkuk. This multi-purpose space will serve as a home for cultural programming, language revitalization, land-based learning, and social enterprise development. The project aims to create sustainable community infrastructure where Mi’kmaw artists, youth, and Elders can gather, learn, and collaborate.

In the Accelerator, they will

Access support with strategic planning, feasibility assessment, and partnership development to transform this vision into a sustainable, community-owned asset that advances cultural and economic self-determination for Mi’kmaw people in Newfoundland.
