Description

Located in Toronto’s Annex neighborhood, the Bell Tower Café is a coffee shop integrated into the bell tower of the 125-year old Church of the Messiah. A fire in 1976 led to the rebuilding of the church, which was originally built in 1891. The original exterior appearance was preserved, while the in- terior was redesigned to maximize flexibility. The main space can seat 250 people and be configured in several different ways. During the week the space is used for worship, community meetings, dance/yoga classes, and a daycare. There is also a weekly market. The Bell Tower Café is a more recent venture and includes a full service coffee bar with adjoining area that can seat up to 50 people. The space has regular events and is also available for meetings and private events.

Costs / Funding

The Anglican Church of Canada provided a grant to start the café.
