Description

The Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood and Community Health Centre integrates a community health centre with a place of worship. The church building and manse were originally leased to the Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood Centre (DPNC) created in 1985 by the Davenport-Perth United Church. The building was renovated in 1991 and included north and west additions for the expansion of a daycare, while the church sanctuary was converted into a multi-purpose space. An Employment Resource Centre was added to the main floor of the centre in 1996, and an Adult Literacy program in 2003. The Centre was designated as an Ontario Early Years Centre in 2003 with responsibility for early childhood development and parent education services for the Davenport Riding. In 2012, the DPNC opened, a new state-of-the-art, 10,000 square-foot facility which provides comprehensive health services.

Complexity / Collaboration

The community health centre is a separate building but is integrated with the organization’s existing premises in the original manse of the church building. The design is intended to complement the existing church, intensify the property and help restore the urban streetscape. Community program and amenity spaces are located on the remain open to the public when the remainder of the centre is closed.

Costs / Funding

In 1988 the DPNC secured funding from the Community Health Branch of the Ontario Ministry of Health. In 1996 Davenport-Perth Neighbourhood Centre received funding from Human Resources Development Canada. Capital funding for the new health centre, announced in 2009, was provided by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
