The Organization

CFGT is a non-profit organization established in 1976 that is the gateway for Francophones who live or come to settle in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). CFGT offers a diverse range of community health, social services and access to housing services that improve the well-being of all Francophones across the GTA.

The CFGT’s mandate is to enable francophones  in the GTA access excellent French-language services in their spheres of activity, by promoting the human, cultural, community and economic aspects of GTA’s  francophone diversity. All our services are free or at very low cost (e.g. notary services) and are available at several points of service (including satellite offices in downtown Toronto, Mississauga [including Pearson Airport], Brampton, North York, and Scarborough or virtually.

The Project

Through an existing site CFGT leases on a long-term basis with the City of Toronto at 20 Lower Spadina Avenue, CFGT plans to redevelop the property into affordable housing with appropriate supports that acts as a transitional housing opportunity for clients to land, seek required supports, and eventually support the attaining and maintaining of permanent housing.

Based on initial massing analysis, up to 53 units along with providing necessary support service and amenity space can be provided on-site. The City of Toronto is supportive of this project and is meeting regularly with CFGT to facilitate the redevelopment of 20 Lower Spadina. The next step is to continue working on the due diligence activities for the site. CFGT has received SEED funding from CMHC to facilitate the due diligence activities required to advance the redevelopment of 20 Lower Spadina into much needed transitional housing for Francophone newcomers and refugees.
