The Organization
Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024, CHFT is a member-supported, co-operatively governed organization of 185 housing co-operatives located in Durham, Toronto, and York Region.
The Project
In 2023, CHFT signed an MOU with a private sector developer of affordable condos which explored the feasibility of the site for a community that would comprise both non-profit co-op units and ownership units. The developer, however, determined that the cost to rebuild existing parking stalls (described in the attached spreadsheet) required due to the current layout of the site, over and above the cost of the development itself, would have made it cost-prohibitive. Given the community work of 2022, we’d like to explore this site one more time, this time with a view to using modular construction.
