Transit-Oriented Development on Main
2026
The Infrastructure Institute and the School of Cities have produced a series of five case studies exploring transit-oriented development (TOD) across Canada. At the heart of the project is a central question: what does a complete community near transit actually look like? Each case study examines a station area in a different city, modelling both the current development trajectory and an optimized alternative that reimagines policy and design to tackle challenges like housing affordability, flood risk, and job retention. The recommendations draw on Canadian and international best practices, providing policymakers with evidence and tools to support decisions on infrastructure investments.
